Tommy James will be speaking at this Friday’s fundraiser honoring the late Hubert Humphrey:
Via The Niles (Michigan) Daily Star: James, who performed for and became close friends with the former vice president during the 1968 campaign, is among those supporting of a plan to build a statue of Humphrey — a long-time senator from the Minnesota — on the state capitol grounds in Minneapolis.
Humphrey’s son Hubert the Third and former Vice President (and Senator from Minnesota) Walter Mondale will also be on hand.
The admiration that James held for Humphrey was returned, as well. The year after losing to Richard Nixon, Humphrey wrote the liner notes for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tommy James & the Shondells[/lastfm]’ Crimson and Clover album.
Tommy: here’s an idea…why not make Hubert an honorary Shondell? You know, in memorium. Just an idea, don’t smack me. ~JZ.
