Remember “Mississippi Queen”? [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]MOUNTAIN[/lastfm] guitarist LESLIE WEST is scheduled to return home this week, a little less than a month after his right leg was amputated just above the knee:
Leslie has diabetes and doctors said he would die if he didn’t have the procedure.
He’s been going through difficult physical therapy but he told Billboard.com that he wants to get back on the road again…somehow.
Before he had the operation, Leslie recorded a new album called “Unusual Suspects.” He’s joined by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]SLASH[/lastfm], BILLY GIBBONS of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]ZZ TOP[/lastfm], ZAKK WYLDE, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]TOTO[/lastfm]‘s STEVE LUKATHER and JOE BONAMASSA. Most of the tunes were written by Leslie, but there’s also a cover of “I Feel Fine” by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]THE BEATLES[/lastfm].
The album will be out on September 20th, and Leslie hinted at a major tour this fall with two other guitar heroes…but that’s all he would reveal for now. ~JZ.

Leslie is the most melodic lead player I’ve ever heard, “Theme From an Imaginary Western,” sends chills down my spine when I hear him play it with his former group, Mountain. IMHO, he’s a better player than Eric Clapton, just ask Joe Bonamassa. God bless you Leslie, may you keep the flame going for all to see and hear…
