[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gladys Knight[/lastfm], who plays the Hollywood Bowl tonight (Wed. 7/27/11), reflected on her life and music with the Los Angeles Times:
The soul music icon, who now performs regularly at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, is working on a new album with American Idol judge — and veteran R&B producer — [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Randy Jackson[/lastfm].
Among the more noteworthy songs is one titled “Old School.” Gladys says it talks about her life — done in a very contemporary style. “I’ve even got a rap on there. I’m not rapping, but one of my little nephews is rapping on it. It is so now. And it’s not a dirty rap. It’s talking about how we fuse yesterday with today.” Expect to see it on sale by Labor Day.
An admitted compulsive gambler who once lost $60,000 in one night playing poker, Gladys says her faith helps keep her from backsliding. Asked if it’s hard to ignore the bells of the slot machines found not just in Vegas casinos but delis and dry cleaners, she says, “I don’t hear them anymore. I really don’t.” ~JZ.
