[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Betty Wright[/lastfm] made her first big splash on pop radio in 1971 with “Clean Up Woman.”
And a half-dozen years later, she rode the disco boom as the featuring vocalist on [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Peter Brown[/lastfm]‘s “Dance With Me.”
Hardly content to play the oldies circuit, the Miami native says she’s always writing new material. Now 14 songs, created with contemporary collaborators as [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Snoop Dogg[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] and her protege [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Joss Stone[/lastfm], make up her latest album, The Movie. A standout track, “Old Songs,” infused with the good-time feel of the ’70s, warns today’s artists they need more than memories from sampling past classics to keep music — and maybe even life — fresh. ~JZ.
