His song “Hard Knocks” was named Amazon.com’s Song of the Day last Saturday — a nice promotional perk as the veteran blues rocker gears up for the January 24th release of his album of the same name.
Matt Serletic — who has worked with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Santana[/lastfm] and[lastfm link_type="artist_info"] Matchbox 20[/lastfm] – produced the album. [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ray Parker Junior[/lastfm] of “Ghostbusters” fame is one of the guitarists.
Cocker calls the nine-song collection “a little more pop than I’ve been into for quite a while — so it would scare me sometimes. I would do the basic tracks, and then Matt would go away and do some of these overdubs and he had all these electronic things on there. It was sometimes like ‘Oh, my god!’ But I wanted to work with Matt very much. And I always knew what kind of record we would be making.” ~JZ.
