FINALLY. Why did it take so many years for the Recording Academy to make [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] its MusiCares Person of the Year?
It wasn’t them — it was Macca. It’s not that he wasn’t appreciative of the offer — he’s just always said he has too many awards. But he’s finally accepted the invitation and will be honored at the 22nd annual benefit gala on February 10th in Los Angeles during Grammy Week. The event raises money for musicians in need.
McCartney says, “I’ve been given a great gift — a life making music — and it’s my privilege to try to make the world a better place by giving back. For more than 20 years, MusiCares has helped so many music people in times of crisis — whether with emergency financial assistance or access to addiction recovery resources — and it is an honor to be recognized as the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year.” The night will feature numerous artists performing McCartney songs.
Previous MusiCares Person of the Year honorees include [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]David Crosby[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Billy Joel[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paul Simon[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sting[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Don Henley[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Brian Wilson[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bono[/lastfm]. ~JZ.
