It’s all about the King of Pop in the City of Angels…
Cirque du Soleil’s [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Michael Jackson[/lastfm] The Immortal World Tour opens a three- day run at L.A.’s Staples Center today (Friday), and yesterday, Jackson had a posthumous hand- and footprint ceremony in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
Jackson’s children — Prince, Paris and Blanket – made the imprint using a glove and shoes worn by Michael. Paris lovingly wrote his name, with a heart in between the words, in the cement. They were accompanied by Michael’s mother, Katherine, and two of his brothers, Tito and Jackie.
Tito tells us that Michael loved Grauman’s Chinese, and producer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Quincy Jones[/lastfm] pointed out in his speech that many actors and song and dance icons Michael admired — such as Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly — had been honored there long ago. [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Justin Bieber[/lastfm] was also on hand to speak and treat the crowd to an a cappella snippet of Michael’s hit “Rockin’ Robin.”
Other speeches came from Jackson associates [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Smokey Robinson[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Chris Tucker[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Debbie Allen[/lastfm], as well as Glee‘s [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Harry Shum Junior[/lastfm]. [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Melanie Fiona[/lastfm] sang “I’ll Be There” and there were dance numbers by the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center and the cast of The Immortal World Tour.
