The late GREAT [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Etta James[/lastfm] was remembered by family, friends, and fans at a service held on Saturday in Los Angeles.
The Rev. Al Sharpton eulogized the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer, praising her for battling her way out of humble beginnings and later addiction to become one of the greatest singers of our time.
Sharpton said, “The genius of Etta James is she flipped the script. She waited until she turned her pain into power.”
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Stevie Wonder[/lastfm] and current James protégé [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm] both performed musical tributes.
And, like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Michael Jackson[/lastfm] after his death, Etta’s music is selling like crazy now. I guess we don’t know who we have until we lose them! ~JZ.
