When we last reported on [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Reg Presley[/lastfm] (the voice of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Troggs[/lastfm] since their ’60s heyday), he was in the hospital being treated for pneumonia.
Now Reg has officially retired because he has lung cancer.
Now 68, Presley fell ill while touring Germany in December and has been undergoing chemotherapy in recent weeks. He posted a note on the band’s website saying that though he’s “not feeling too bad at the moment,” he has to “call time on The Troggs and retire.”
The Troggs topped the American charts in the summer of ’66 with the garage-rock classic “Wild Thing” and returned to the Top 10 two years later with the ballad “Love Is All Around.”
If you want to drop him a line, The Troggs fan club secretary is forwarding get-well cards to Reg. Send them to:
REG PRESLEY, c/o Jacqueline Ryan, 56 Waite Davies Rd., London SE12 OND, United Kingdom.
We send our prayers and thoughts out to Reg. Hang in there, man…love is all around! ~JZ.
