“KISSES ON THE BOTTOM” from [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] is out today, and it’s bound to be at the top of everyone’s “must-have” Valentine’s Day wish list. Perfect to combine with flowers and/or candy!
The former [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beatle[/lastfm] shares a little of the music he grew up listening to with today’s release of his new album. It’s a collection of standards, plus two original songs, these are tunes he remembers his father James singing and playing on the piano. McCartney tells us, “I’d always thought, ‘One of these days I’m gonna do an album giving a nod to that period in my life.’” A deluxe version with two bonus tracks, expanded packaging and three postcards will be released next Tuesday, Valentine’s Day.
Originally titled My Valentine, after the first single, which he wrote for his wife, Nancy, it was supposed to be released on Valentine’s Day, but McCartney felt that title could limit its appeal. So as for Kisses on the Bottom, it’s a line from the lead track, “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” and not a statement about a part of the anatomy.
Joining him on the album is [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Elvis Costello[/lastfm]‘s wife, jazz singer and pianist [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Diana Krall[/lastfm], along with a who’s who of top session players, and on two songs, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Eric Clapton[/lastfm], with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Stevie Wonder[/lastfm] on another.
McCartney will celebrate today’s release with an intimate concert Thursday night at Capitol Studios in Hollywood where he recorded it. You can see it starting at 9pm ct on iTunes. ~JZ.
