Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello
Tom Morello, otherwise known as The Nightwatchman (when he’s not playing with Rage Against The Machine) is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and has had to the good fortune to perform with the man a number of times recently, including at the recent South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
Speaking to Los Angeles station KROQ, Morello said that he still has a hard time believing that he gets to share the stage with New Jersey’s favorite son: “You gotta be kidding me man! Like when I moved to California back in 1986 with the Nebraska tape in my Chevy Astro Van, there was no crystal ball I could have ever looked into that would have said ‘Yo, one day you will be playing four songs on stage on stage with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band.’” Morello, a politically active artist who performed an outdoor show at SXSW which was interrupted by police, added, “I don’t get the least bit nervous when the police pull the plug on a show in the middle of the street. I get terrified whenever I play with Bruce Springsteen.”
Earlier in the week, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Morello, Eric Burdon, Joe Ely, Alejandro Escovedo and Arcade Fire performed a giant sing-along of “This Land Is Your Land.”
