In the great state of Florida Eddie Gonzalez has officially changed his name to ‘VoteforEddie.com’ for his congressional run in November. The independent candidate had his name changed in January by a Miami-Dade county judge just before some paperwork was needed to put his name in the running for the Congressional seat for the state.

Officials from the Florida Department of State said that they told Eddie that no nicknames were allowed on ballots so he went and had his name legally changed. Since a judge granted the change there is nothing the state can do to put ‘Eddie Gonzalez’ on the ballot. They will have to put ‘VoteforEddie.com’ as one of the boxes to check.

One of the reasons for the name change is that Eddie is registered as an Independent and he believes that since he doesn’t have the support of either the Republican or Democratic parties he had to find a way to get his name out there.

His main competiton is five term U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. A Republican from Miami. Diaz-Balart ran unopposed to the seat in the 25th congressional district in 2010. Eddie does not want Diaz-Balart to run unopposed again and believes voters are tired of the Republican/Democrat stalemate in Washington.
