June 16th, 1966: The Beatles appeared on the U.K. television program “Top of the Pops;” lip-synching to “Paperback Writer” and “Rain.” This was a surprise, unannounced appearance.
This turned out to be the group’s last live musical television appearance, aside from their performance of “All You Need Is Love” on the “Our World” TV show in June of 1967.
