Anyone at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington last night got the jolt of their lives last night, literally. Lightning struck very close to the north side of the stadium, and the simultaneous clap of thunder sent players scurrying for the safety of the dugouts.

It wasn’t even raining when the lightning struck in the top of the 4th inning. Roy Oswalt was about to deliver a pitch to Minnesota’s Ryan Doumit. Oswalt flinched, but Doumit and Rangers’ catcher Mike Napoli immediately bolted for their respective dugouts. The thunder also sent Minnesota’s Josh Willingham diving to his hands and knees at first base. The lightning and rain that followed caused a 45-minute delay in the game that the Rangers eventually won 4-3 after 13 innings.

The video replay of the players’ reactions is stunning. You can watch it on the Texas Rangers’ website, texasrangers.com.
