July 20th, 1964: Capitol Records, who had refused to release any Beatles songs in America until “I Want To Hold Your Hand;” decided to try to make up for it all at once by issuing album cuts as singles.
On this day they released “I’ll Cry Instead/I’m Happy Just to Dance With You” (which made it to #25 on the charts) and “And I Love Her/If I Fell,” (which made it to #12), both songs from Beatles movies.
