Christina Aguilera knows a thing or two about messing up the National Anthem. During the Super Bowl a few years back, here in Dallas, she received a lot of criticism for messing up the words to the Star Spangled Banner. Now ‘The Voice’ judge is helping out another singer who is getting flack over her rendition of the song.
Eleven year-old Harper Gruzins sang a version of the song at an FC Dallas game a few weeks ago. The video went viral and people all over the world chimed in with their thoughts on how this young girl sang the song. Most of the comments weren’t encouraging. Some even threatening to the North Texas Girls’ health and life.
When Harper came on 103.7 Lite FM’s Gene & Julie Show in Dallas Thursday morning she received some words of encouragement from one of her heroes.
“Harper, you had the courage to sing in front of thousands of people and I applaud you,” Aguilera said in a statement to Harper. “Keep your head up high and keep trying. You have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Harper also took to the mic for the first time since she sang the National Anthem.
