There’s a jewel thief on the loose in Dallas/Fort Worth. It started last week with the first of two robberies. $700,000 worth of gemstones were stolen from a jeweler in a hotel parking lot. Unidentified suspects pulled up, jumped out with handguns drawn, and demanded the man’s property. Detectives believe this was “very organized,” but haven’t yet determined if this week’s heist is related to last week’s.
Who is the next big thing? Mark Hollis is Michigan State’s athletic director and a rookie member of the Men’s Basketball Committee, Hollis is the creative soul who came up with, among other things, the Carrier Classic, which pitted his Spartans against North Carolina last year aboard the USS Carl Vinson. The details aren’t finalized, but here it is: Next year on Veterans Day weekend, there will be four — count ‘em, four — games taking place simultaneously at Cowboys Stadium, site of the 2014 Final Four.
So, what would the NFL be like without kickoffs? NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is toying with the idea of removing kickoffs from the game entirely for the sake of player safety. The potential move is in direct response to the plethora of serious injuries that have recently plagued the league.
