Plano Senior High Says Not Wearing NHS Stoles Is A Tradition

Plano Senior High is refusing to allow students to wear their National Honor Society sashes at graduation. Well, come to find out…it’s tradition. And it’s been in place for 40 years.

According to a statement by the PISD Board of Trustees president, which was released to students and parents…

“The school has opted not to include additional regalia, per tradition.”

Now, this isn’t the first time Plano Senior High has seen backlash over the tradition. As recently as 2004 and 2008 students took issue with it. Both times, the school opted to keep the tradition alive. And it’s not that the students with grade point averages of a 3.6 won’t be wearing white stoles. They just won’t be wearing one that features the NHS logo.

As it stands right now, each district decides their own policy. From what we can gather, Plano Senior High isn’t budging on the issue this year, however, it may be up for discussion next year.

Here’s what a PISD Board Member has to say on the issue…
