Study: A Brisk 15-Minute Daily Walk Will Add Years to Your Life

Good news on the exercise front. Researchers wanted to find out whether low levels of exercise could be beneficial for older adults. Yes.

In fact, just a burst of activity – i.e. a quarter hour brisk walk every day — helps lower risk of an early death by 22%. The findings are relevant for age 60+.

The doctors involved say that since the amount of time is so ‘reasonable,’ there’s no excuse not to get your tush outside and walk! Prior recommendations were much higher… with compliance, therefore, much lower.

And I love this quote: “It is well established that regular physical activity has a better overall effect on health than any medical treatment.” Geez, who wouldn’t rather take a walk than take medicine. Even on a heat index day of 107!

The study was done on French people aged 65 starting in 2001 and followed over a 12-year period.

I’m thinking it could be skewed because the French drink lots of wine and don’t worry so much…

Nonetheless – I’m game for these simple results, aren’t you?
