If you’re traveling for Thanksgiving and are still at home while reading this, you might be in for a long day of travel.
Google recently put out some travel tips that have been compiled from years of Google Maps data that highlight the best times to depart from your homes if you’re heading out-of-town for the holidays.
The very best time to leave was the Sunday before at 6am. If not then, either the Monday or Tuesday before would have been the next best choices. If you waited until the Wednesday before, the absolute worst time to depart is around 3pm. The best? Around 6am. If you are up and out the door by 7 or 8am, however, you should be just fine. AVOID LEAVING AROUND MIDDAY!
As far as returning goes, the best time to leave is around 6am Friday morning. If you want to push it until Saturday, as long as you leave in the morning you should be fine. Once again, avoid leaving around midday. 3-4pm will see the heaviest flow of traffic and you’ll be waiting for a while.
Also, if you tend to be a late shopper, you might want to hit the liquor stores earlier than normal. According to Google, the stores that are often visited the most during the holiday season are Wine and liquor stores. This is nationwide, too. How else are you supposed to deal with family drama without it?
