A statement on his official website reads: “George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening, no third party was involved. He is being treated for superficial cuts and bruises but is fine. We have no further comment at this time.”

According to the BBC report, an ambulance spokesman said: ”The man, who we believe to be in his 40s, sustained a head injury and following treatment, stabilization and immobilization by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown to hospital for further care.”

A police spokesman said: “The exact circumstances of what happened are unclear at this time and until further investigations have been carried out it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”

The Stooges – “1969″ The Stooges debuted in ’69 with their classic self-titled LP, which featured this skull-crusher. “Another year for me and you, another year with nothing to do!” Well, there was nothing to do after June 3 of that year, at least if you were a Trekkie (a term which hadn’t yet been coined): That was the date that the show was cancelled. Years later, in 1997, Stooges frontman Iggy Pop appeared on the third Trek series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as Yelgrun, an “overseer” for the Dominion (those were the bad guys, for non-DS9 fans). The Mamas & The Papas – “Monday Monday” Though Star Trek aired on Thursday nights at that time that “Monday Monday” hit No. 1 in 1966, there’s a line here that rings true: “Can’t trust that day!” Or at least NBC couldn’t, moving the show to the dead zone of Friday nights instead of just cancelling it. The cancellation moment came two season later, with the show returning nearly 20 years later in 1987 via Star Trek: The Next Generation. And you know who was there? Mamas & Papas singer Michelle Phillips, who played Jenice Manheim (Captain Picard’s ex-girlfriend) in the first season of the show. Boom. Circle complete.

Fleetwood Mac – “The Chain” Like Star Trek, Fleetwood Mac has proved remarkably enduring. Although the lineup (like Trek‘s Enterprise) has gone through many staff changes, like the Federation, drummer Mick Fleetwood (along with bassist John McVie) has remained a constant. While you can’t miss Fleetwood’s commanding presence behind the drums at the Mac’s concerts, you’d be forgiven for missing his appearance on the Next Generation season 2 episode “Manhunt” in 1989.  First off, he shaved off his omnipresent beard for the role. Second, his prosthetics rendered him unrecognizable. In this scene, he plays an Antedean dignitary who looks like a fish. Is that politically incorrect? Well, we got the idea from Lwaxana Troi, who exclaimed, “Delegates! Last time I saw something like that, it was being served on a plate!”

Rage Against The Machine- “Bulls On Parade” “Weapons, not home, not food, not shoes,” spits frontman Zach de la Rocha; it’s one of many songs where Rage stand up for the less fortunate. To be sure, in Gene Rodenberry’s Trek universe, there are haves and have-nots, but it is still an optimistic future where poverty seems to be eliminated and racism is rarely an issue (though it did pop up in the original series episode “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield”). That’s a future that guitarist Tom Morello no doubt hopes for, so it’s no surprise that he was a big fan of the show, and appeared in the 1998 film Star Trek: Insurrection (featuring the Next Generation crew), uncredited as a (heavily made-up and unrecognizable) Son’A officer.

Audioslave – “Original Fire” “The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on!” That may be a bit strong, but it’s sort of fitting: the Enterprise’s “five year mission” ended after three seasons in 1969, but the passion of the fans led to a return of Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew in 1979′s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Similarly, the disintegration of Rage Against The Machine didn’t stop Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford, who stuck together to form Audioslave. But why are we including two Morello/Wilk/Commerford songs in a row? Because Morello had the good fortune to appear in two Treks. After Insurrection, he returned in more recognizable form on the 2000 episode of Star Trek: Voyager, as a crewman named “Mitchell.” Watch his scene here.

Brad Paisley – “Celebrity” Paisley is a noted Trek fan, and while he has never appeared on one of the TV shows or films, he did get Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner, to appear in this video. Paisley was also one of the many guests on Shatner’s 2011 album Seeking Major Tom (on a cover of the Steve Miller Band’s “Space Cowboy”).

We’ve all read Cat in the Hat, but have you heard of Hats for Cats? Hats for Cats is designer Yumiko Landers latest project which aims to make your cat master of his or her domain. A guy in Florida shot himself in the leg while he’s bowling. He had the pistol in his pocket and it went off when he hit his leg with the bowling ball. The Big Lebowski would be so proud.

In-Vitro meat is the idea of manufacturing of meat products through “tissue-engineering” technology. Cultured meat (= in-vitro meat) could have financial, health, animal welfare and environmental advantages over traditional meat. The idea: to produce animal meat, but without using an animal.

Venezuela is running out of the most basic of necessities — toilet paper. Blaming political opponents for the shortfall, as it does for other shortages, the embattled socialist government says it will import 50 million rolls to boost supplies. That was little comfort to consumers struggling to find toilet paper.

Attention swimmers: More than half of the public pools tested in a new study contained bacterial evidence that someone may have  pooped in the pool. Investigators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention worked with state and local public health departments last summer to collect samples from pool filters at 161 pools in the metro-Atlanta area. Some of the pools were public, some were in private clubs and some were in water parks.

A man told officers he fled the scene of a small car accident because he ate “bad” Chinese food and didn’t want to poop in his pants. Carlos Baca was ultimately arrested for allegedly driving without a license, after he returned to the spot where cops say he backed his truck into another car. The car owner had notified authorities of the fender bender.

Bono appeared on CBS This Morning Thursday (May 16) to talk to host Charlie Rose about activism and music. Bono’s appearance comes on the heels of a new biography, The Frontman: Bono (In the Name of Power) that denounces the U2 frontman’s anti-poverty campaigning (among other things). Though Rose and Bono never mentioned the book, written by Dublin-based writer Harry Browne, the singer’s appearance could be seen as a counter-argument to the unflattering biography.

In the interview, the man born Paul Hewson said that he follows Nelson Mandela’s belief that “poverty is not a natural condition,” and that it is “manmade.” Bono made the point that his activism isn’t about “charity.” “I’ve always been on a justice tip,” he said, “rather than a charity one.”

On the topic of AIDS, he called the United States a “heroic story.” “You are way out in front in the fight against AIDS,” he told Rose, claiming that most of the 8 million worldwide on medication for the disease are alive because of the efforts of the U.S. “Do Americans know that? Do they know that they’re part of this incredible story? To me, this is as heroic as your intervention in the Second World War.”

Also discussed: Bono’s messianic complex, something Bono fully accepts, noting that “anyone who finds their way to the front of a rock band… has definitely got a messianic complex.”

Other revelations in the interview included the frontman’s thoughts on songwriting, saying “[Songs are] like your parents. They tell you what to do, they tell you how to behave, they tell you how to misbehave, how to dress. Everything you do is directed by the songs.” He also discussed his motivation behind a new U2 album, saying that he doesn’t want to make a new record “unless it’s great.”

Confession time…I have never seen one single episode of the TV show Star Trek or any of the movies until last night. I went in with absolutely no expectations. I didn’t even read the plot or anything. I was only aware of the main characters just by hearing everyone else talk over the years. With that being said…I loved it!

Every action movie should start off with action immediately! The first 10 minutes is full of it and it really doesn’t stop until the end. That’s my kind of movie. It was funny and for the most part very well written. I will say, without giving anything away, there is one really cheesy Tintanic-esque moment between Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk where they share their love for one another through a glass window with full on Vulcan hands. Since it made me laugh out loud…I can look passed it.

The acting is great. Chris Pine really has William Shatner’s same gestures and mannerisms. Zachary Quinto is fabulous in everything he does! Simon Pegg is funny as always. Zoe Zaldona speaks excellent Kilngon, but c’mon girl eat a sandwich. Benidict Cumberbatch just might the creepiest human being on earth, which makes for a really good evil villain. He’s not a bad actor, however, I am convinced he gets roles solely on his “unique” looks. By the way, if I were him…I would ride that weird face all the way to the bank! But the real winner of this movie for me was Bones. Played by Carl Urban. He stole the whole movie for me. He’s funny, he’s cute, and I expect to see him in a lot more role in the future!

The special effects were awesome and I am really picky about special effects. Don’t ever ask me about the effects in Harry Potter, I will go off! There wasn’t one moment in Star Trek Into Darkness where I thought it looked overdone or fake.

Ultimately, here’s how I know its a good movie…when you pretty much know exactly what’s about to happen, you’ve essentially know the entire plot 30 minutes into the movie, and still somehow J.J. Abrams manages to completely keep you entertained.

Like I said, I loved it! I think its equally as good as Iron Man 3. I give it 4 Vulcan nerve pinches! This is definitely one to see in the theater.

While Chris Cornell got the honor of doing the presentation speech for Heart, Cantrell would have been a great choice to get on the mic as well. He has history with the group: Ann Wilson, along with Cornell and Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, provided guest vocals on Alice In Chains’ 1992 Sap EP. In 2005, three years after the death of Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley, the surviving AIC members performed at a benefit concert joined by a number of guest singers, including Ann Wilson. The following year, the band performed at a Heart tribute concert put on by VH1 Classic.

The night of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, Cantrell told Radio.com that Heart has been influential to him on musical, professional and personal levels.

“They’ve influenced not only me, but a whole generation of Seattle musicians, and also musicians worldwide,” Cantrell said. “Their body of work stands the test of time, and the level that they operate on as musicians has not dropped one iota.  It’s humbling to be asked to be a part of this. They’re my friends, they’re my sisters. Just being around them, and getting to know them as people has been inspiring just on a human level. They’re one of the bands that made me want to do this. A band like Heart and musicians like Ann and Nancy show you the level that you should try to operate at.”

He was there for Heart, but there was one other classic rock act who he was excited to see inducted that night.

“Rush is an amazing band,” Cantrell said. “You want to talk  about the top level of musicianship, Rush is at the top of the list.  I spend a lot of hours spent trying to learn the riffs to those songs, ‘La Villa Strangiato,’ ’2112,’ ‘Fly By Night.’ Rush, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures were all really important records to me.” (Read more about Rush’s induction)
