Jimi Hendrix died 44 years ago today. So we want to take a minute and remember one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived.

While Outkast is currently reunited for a globe-spanning festival tour, band member Andre 3000 (AKA Andre Benjamin) is getting added exposure thanks to the release of the first trailer from upcoming feature film, Jimi: All is By My Side, a biopic starring the rapper in the titular role of Jimi Hendrix.

So will Steve Jobs, Wilt Chamberlin and Johnny Carson.
The film doesn’t have any Hendrix compositions, but uses songs that Jimi covered.
The tour is set to kick off March 11 in Dallas and run through April 3’s Detroit show.
The new doc isn’t so insider-y that it would alienate people who haven’t studied Hendrix’s life and music. As Smeaton says, “It gives a good overview, it touches on each of the albums. If this makes kids who have a Jimi t-shirt go out and get the records, then we’ve done our job.”
